WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE WILSTON NORTHS ACADEMY?

A focus on mastering the fundamentals of the game in all skill areas, instilling strong character and cricketing values in our players and promoting creating thinking, proactive & independent cricketers

WNJ ACADEMY | TERM 3 PRE-SEASON | 17 JULY – 4 SEP

DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Emphasis on the basics of the game and exposure to match-based scenarios including coordination exercises and movement patterns specific to cricket.
Other focuses will include key cricketing values of teamwork, enthusiasm, problem solving, selflessness with a squad and dynamic fundamental cricket elements of fielding and game-play. This focus will be developed in a competitive and open environment where decision-making will be the key. The need to make mistakes and learn from them is crucial to development.

SESSION OUTLINE
4:00pm – 5:30pm (Mondays)

15min – Fielding/movement & game sense component

  • Catching, throwing, movement patterns
  • Scenario based game play.

45 mins: Cricket skill development session

  • Batting/Bowling, live net’s, scenarios, bowling machine, spin fire, all specific to the week’s focus ie. Playing spin, performing under fatigue, T20 play

30 mins: Competition based cricket activity

  • A new skill will be tested each session.

Ages 8-12 (dependent on skill)

EMERGING PLAYERS SQUAD
Emphasis on high performance training methods including short-pitched bowling, playing spin, T20-specific batting strategies/techniques, goal setting, batting/bowling plans to different conditions.
Other areas of focus will include exposure to coordination exercises, learning movement patterns specific to cricket and self-driven and peer-mentoring components to develop individual characters..

SESSION OUTLINE
4:00pm – 5:30pm (Mondays)

60 mins – Cricket skill development

  • Batting/bowling, live nets, scenarios, bowling machine, spin fire,
  • Specific to the weeks focus – playing spin, performing under fatigue, T20 match play etc

30 min: Advanced fielding/movement & game sense component

  • Catching, throwing, movement patterns
  • Match scenario and game-sense activities

Ages 10-15 (dependent on skill)

HIGH PERFORMANCE SQUAD
For cricketers who are playing A/B or representative cricket, the High Performance Squad provides a training environment that focuses on developing the technical, physical and mental skills required to transition into senior cricket.

SESSION OUTLINE
4:00pm – 5:30pm (Mondays)

60 mins – Cricket skill development

  • Ages: 13+ (dependant on skill)
  • Designed to help with the transition from junior cricket to Taverners Cricket (seniors)
  • Skill-specific session each week
  • Use of high-performance equipment and facilities
  • Weekly program booklets to be completed
