Wilston Norths is a junior cricket club committed to ensuring a fun, inclusive and progressive environment for our players and their families. We are proud to work with our major stakeholders Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia to deliver the best programs for our youngsters.

Following extensive feedback from State and Territory bodies, cricket associations, clubs and communities, Cricket Australia has redesigned Cricket Blast.

The improvements made to this awesome program will enhance the Blast experience for clubs, coordinators, families and, most importantly – kids!! There will be some changes to how the activities are run and the progression of Cricket Blasters. Junior Blasters and Master Blasters have been replaced with the one program type – Woolworths Cricket Blast.

The major change to the program type is the creation of three categories of Cricket Blast players aged 5-10:

  1. New to cricket – Ages four to seven, no prerequisite skills, just come down and have a Blast learning the game!
  2. Has the basic cricket skills – Ages five to eight, basic batting and bowling ability (can bowl straight-ish over a 12m pitch length). Training and practice matches included in this program.
  3. Nearly ready for junior cricket – The Big Show! Ages seven to eight, players must be able to bowl 14m with a straight arm to participate in this program. Half hour training followed by an hour game vs other teams according to the weekly fixture.

The introduction of a three-tier structure will help the player transition from new/basic to the “nearly ready for junior cricket” stage.
