Trophy Presentation 2019/2020

President’s message

Dear WNJCC Community,

The Summer cricket season has concluded and it really did give us a bit of everything.

We enjoyed some great cricket this summer just gone. Several of our teams won premierships in their competitive age groups, many of our players achieved individual milestones and a selection of older players took the field for BNJCA representative team duties. Most importantly our players conducted themselves in the spirit of the game, had fun while they played and achieved group and individual success.

We faced some serious challenges with the bushfire crisis, sudden and extended wet season and currently the Coronavirus pandemic. We’ve all been affected in different ways during these times however we have pulled together as a community and forged our way through. Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation during these challenges.

In November we held our Annual General Meeting and welcomed six new committee members to the fold. We bid a very fond farewell to outgoing Treasurer and all-round outstanding person Simone Rosengren; Simone worked tirelessly to ensure the club was in a strong financial position going forward and is still involved as manager of one of our girls teams. Thank you Simone and welcome Tim, Scott, Paul, Tanya, Nicole and Craig.

We would like to thank our platinum sponsor Hoppy’s Car Wash Cafe. Hoppy’s have supported cricket at Wilston Norths for many years. If you haven’t had your car washed at Hoppy’s, you don’t know what “clean” really looks like. Please get in touch to purchase a discounted car wash voucher and see what all the fuss is about.

Thank you to Store Local Newmarket. Store Local have supported us this season with much-needed storage space at their Finsbury St, Newmarket site. Sharon and the staff are lovely to deal with and run a very clean and functional storage facility. There are discounts available for our members and the club receives a cash incentive whenever a customer mentions us as their referee. Click their image below for rates and other details.

Special thanks to Darren Roy, Warren Hawkins, David Taylor and David Brain for their work with the internal trials process. Warren also worked tirelessly to pull together the statistics required to award the trophies again this season. Amanda Broadhurst once again worked her magic in getting nearly 400 players organised in to their teams, thank you Amanda!

Our volunteer coaches, managers, and scorers deserve a huge round of applause for their efforts in getting our boys and girls down to training and on to the field each week. Thanks to each and every one you.

Stay healthy and see you in October,

Chris Shay
