ANNOUNCEMENT – Appointment of Director of Coaching
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Wes Hosking to the director of coaching position at Wilston Norths Junior Cricket Club.
One of the key focus areas we had as a Committee this year was to provide an increased level of support and direction to all of our volunteer coaches and through this provide a more enjoyable cricketing experience for all our young players. The appointment of a director of coaching is a very important part of that strategy.
Wes has joined us following more than a decade living in the UK where he was extensively involved in the community cricket scene as a player and coach, winning Bedfordshire County Cricket League’s “outstanding contribution to coaching award” shortly before he and his wife made the decision to move their family back to Australia.
Wes has provided us with this small bio:
“As a batsman/wicketkeeper, I started playing senior 1st team cricket in Biloela 27 years ago, at 13. My love for the game has seen me play for QUT in Warehouse Premier and then move to the UK in 2001, playing for Bexley in the Kent league, Kidmore End in the Thames Valley league before settling in Bedfordshire and playing the last 14 years at Eaton Bray becoming the clubs 3rd highest run scorer with over 7000 runs @ 41. During my time in the UK, I had the privilege to play 7 games for the MCC. Having completed my ECB level 2 10 years ago, I have found a new passion in coaching youth cricket. I was head coach for Bedfordshire Young Cricketers Under 10’s-13’s for the past 4 years. I believe that in coaching, if we get it right, there is room for a “sport for all” philosophy as well as developing excellence. Most importantly, I believe in letting the players play and enjoy the challenges, embracing setbacks as a great learning opportunity. I’m really excited to join WNJCC’s strong junior setup and help to develop the next generation of cricketers.”
Wes has hit the ground running, already meeting a number of our Coaches and teams and will be involved in our upcoming internal rep trials this Sunday 1 December at Shaw Park.
As we move into the post Christmas season we aim for Wes to become involved in assisting those teams with coordinated training to provide greater support to our coaches and an enhanced experience for our cricketers. Wes will also run his eye over the budding talent within our Friday night Cricket Blast program at Gibson Park.
Please join me in welcoming Wes to the Club.
